Filipa Cardoso
(N. 18 April, 1979)Described as a “true born Fadista”, in Filipa Cardoso fits the neighborhood, the fierceness, the tragedy and the humor. She is considered one of the most complete fado singers of her generation and this is very evident in her work “Cumprir seu Fado” (2009), with such hits like the single that gives title to the album and “Dia Estranho”.
Throughout these years Filipa Cardoso has been collecting praise and excellent critiques as a result of the assiduous presence both on national and international stages (Brazil, Angola, Germany, Austria, Belgium, USA), her vocal skills, her Lusitanian soul, her power and her eternal loyalty to Fado.
After cementing herself as one of the greatest voices of Portuguese music, in 2014 she joined “Tropa Fandanga”, a play from Teatro Praga that won the Golden Globe for Best Show and where Filipa was able to prove all her talent not only as a singer, but also as an actress.
She participated in the celebrated “Romances” by Aldina Duarte with Ana Moura and Camané and also in 2015, at the Caixa Alfama festival, the critics called her a “fado storm”, in an unforgettable concert.
After a 2016 booked with performances in Portugal and Brazil, the year 2017 presented an agenda full of concerts abroad with performances in Paris, Bordeaux, Germany, Austria (two-week tour) and also in Angola.
That same year, Filipa Cardoso sold out the concert at CCB on the “Há Fado No Cais” cycle.
The television is another stage where Filipa shines. In 2018, she recorded her participation as a fado singer in thes series “Sul”, with the direction of Ivo Ferreira and where she performed again alongside José Raposo and, in 2020, she participated in “O Atentado”, by Jorge Paixão da Costa. In September, the Escadinhas de São Miguel in Alfama were small for the crowd that appeared at her concert on the the Santa Casa Alfama Festival.
On April 9th, 2019, Filipa presented some of her new themes at Teatro S. Luiz, in Lisbon, where she drew smiles, applauses and tears from the audience!
That year, Filipa returned to Germany on the 15th of June in a great concert at the Culture Festival of Kaiserslautern, where she, once again, moved the German audience. Two months later, on August 20th, she traveled to the Azores, for a fantastic concert at Semana dos Baleeiros. 2019 proved to be fruitful for Filipa Cardoso, with the artist still performing, in October, at Recreios da Amadora and, in November, in Mainz, in a unique concert.
If her career on television is taking small but safe steps, it is in the theater that Filipa Cardoso's talent as an actress is even more accentuated. In 2019, she shone as the protagonist in the role of “Severa”, in the homonymous musical by Filipe La Feria, having won the award for “best actress” by the festivalsdacancao.pt website for her fantastic performance in this musical. More recently, on June 12th, 2020, we were able to see her in the show “Enquanto houver Santo António”, a televised musical revista by Filipe LaFeria, which celebrates the history of the Popular Marches.
She is currently working on the long-awaited next album.
