Filipe Duarte
(N. 28 October, 1934)Filipe Duarte entered the “Primavera do Fado” competition organised by the poet Radamanto, and became a professional fado singer at “Faia” when he was 24 years old.
He worked at several fado houses (casas de fado), as "Mãe Preta", "Parreirinha de Alfama", and "Senhor Vinho", where he worked for 12 years in the 1970s.
Filipe Duarte travelled to Porto for an 8-day show and decided to stay for 2 years working at some fado houses as "Mal Cozinhado" and "Taverna de S. Jorge".
In the 1980s he began his international career touring Spain, the United States, Brazil, Rumania, Tunisia, and the Netherlands. He also did a 6-month tour in Macau. He opened a fado house with Tony de Matos and Carlos Zel - "Fado Menor". In the 1990s he opened his own – the “Solar do Fado” - on Calçada da Memória, Ajuda, and will manage it for 11 years.
Later Filipe Duarte will continue to appear in different shows, namely the “4ªs feiras de fado do Casino Estoril” invited by Carlos Zel.
Throughout his career he made several appearances on TV shows, as "Fados de Portugal" by António Pinto Basto, and "Parabéns" by Herman José.
He made several LP and Singles for various recording companies, but only one of his records was released in CD.
