Born in Felgueiras, Joana Almeida came to study in Lisbon, where she began singing at Fado houses in Bairro Alto and Alfama. At the age of just 17, she was the winner of the 2nd National Grand Prize for Fado organised by the RTP1 television station, and the following year was a finalist in the “O Meu Fado” contest promoted by Rádio Sim. Considered to be the revelation of the year in 2016, Joana Almeida took part in the Caixa Alfama and Caixa Ribeira Festivals and is a regular performer at the “Tours with Fado” organised by the Museu do Fado.
