Online Program with Fado Houses
Fado Houses stopped their activity abruptly in the context of the pandemic we are experiencing. Hundreds of artists work in this sector who, over the years, have built and still build the history of Fado today. We speak of artists who work daily in these areas and are in an unprotected situation. We speak of emblematic spaces in the city of Lisbon, mostly historic houses, in operation for many decades, living spaces for learning, transmission and cultural enjoyment of Fado and Portuguese Guitar.
For this period of confinement to which we are all subject, the Fado Museum is developing a program with the Lisbon Fado Houses that will soon be able to be followed by everyone:
FIQUE EM CASA... DE FADOS
Co-production Egeac / Museu do Fado and RTP
Documentary recorded in 10 emblematic fado houses in the city of Lisbon. The individual episodes will be broadcast online on the social media of the Lisbon City Council, Egeac and the Fado Museum and the documentary will be broadcast on RTP.
FADOS DA CASA
A program of conversations and fado with the artists of the casts from all the fado houses in Lisbon, filmed in a controlled environment and transmitted through the social networks of the Lisbon City Council, EGEAC and the Fado Museum. Throughout this cycle, performers and musicians are invited to share memories and knowledge about the history of Fado, to select emblematic pieces from the Museum's collection, to honor their artistic references and, above all, to share their immense talent. While we wait for the reunion with Fado and with the extraordinary artists who build it daily, in these historic places in the city of Lisbon, they will be bringing Fado and the Museum to you.
For a fado singer, it all starts at Casa de Fados. It is there that he receives the teachings of the elder singers. It is there that he learns to know the poetic repertoires, the melodies and the legacy of the great pillars of the fadista tradition. It is there that he grows, as an artist, to integrate, in his own name, a collective heritage that has a history of approximately two centuries and is still, today, in the 21st century, as a living and universal heritage.
